The photographs represent a personal view of the friends, neighbors, relatives and personalities in the community who touched his early life and who are unforgettable to him. This familiarity and friendship is clearly evident in each portrait and offers the viewer a rare and unusual view of a changing rural America.

This book presents a selection of Bewick's engravings and writings on the subject of monuments, both personal and public. The text contains writings from MEMOIR, two letters and several notations made by Bewick and his daughter Jane in the margins of two 1821 volumes of the BRITISH BIRDS now in the Victoria and Albert Museum Library, London. Sixteen tailpieces were selected and carefully reproduced on copper from the MEMORIAL EDITION. Other illustrations tipped in include a portrait of Bewick from an original engraving by Burnett, a halftone photograph of Bewick's gravestone and a print pulled on troya paper from an original block. The book is 6" by 8 3/4" and is printed in monotype Baskerville in black on a callendered Japanese paper. Original prospectus enclosed.
