Deutscher Humanist und Mathematiker, Schüler von Philipp Melanchthon. Im Jahr 1563 wurde er Professor für Griechisch an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Heidelberg. Im Jahr 1585 veröffentlichte er auch ein Buch gegen die Hexenverfolgung. Das vorliegende Werk wurde erstmals 1578 in Heidelberg und ein zweites Mal 1628 in Straßburg veröffentlicht.
