These heavy lifting derricks were vital in loading and unloading shipping cargos, railroad cargo and shipments, logging applications, and provided a vital component in combination with the Buffalo Contractors' Plant Manufacturing Corp. hoisting engines and derricks, in steam, oil, and electric applications. Miner (fl. 1880-1920) appears in street directories and trade literature with the company until World War I. After World War I, the company changes over to the Buffalo Hoist & Derrick Co. until the mid-1920's. No copies located in Worldcat.

Pacific Car and Foundry during the Mid-20th-Century saw a tremendous demand for logging equipment, caterpillar tractors, sulky's, yarders, construction equipment, and and related equipment. The Pacific Car and Foundry Co. was originally founded in 1905 as Seattle Car Manufacturing to produce railway and logging equipment in its West Seattle Plant, and later merged with Pacific Car and Foundry and relocated to Renton. The Company has now become PACCAR, Inc., and the Winch Division located in Oklahoma, and includes the brand names of CARCO, Braden, and Gearmatic.

First editions of nearly a complete run of the lavishly illustrated trade magazine for heavy equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, and construction firms in Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska during the Mid-20th-Century construction boom, which resulted in year-after-year growth in public infrastructure and capital investment, including the expansion of the Interstate Highway system, hydropower dam projects, roads, bridges, canals, and much more. Launched originally in 1907 as a weekly newspaper, this industry trade magazine eventually became monthly and later bi-monthly through the 1960's. Although several institutions do have runs of PB&E in their holdings, many of the runs are incomplete, or broken, and more than the occasional individual issue for sale in the market are quite scarce.

First edition of this scarce Post-World War I heavy equipment catalogue pitching the Model 40 Byers Excavator, mounted… on caterpillar tracks, and capable of smaller trenching jobs, draglines, excavating New York Subway tunnels, and featuring a specially built trailer for transport. Founded originally in 1874, J.F. Byers improved and designed steam engine machinery, and even invented the specialty oatmeal grinding equipment sold to Quaker Oats Mills, and was well known for their very popular steam-powered steam shovel excavators, and drag lines. First edition of this rare catalogue for the Case Threshing Machine Company, issued featur…ing all the parts and supplies to maintain their traction engines, portable engines, gas & oil tractors, threshing machines, and road building equipment. Jerome Increase Case (1819- 1891) began building threshing machines in 1847 in Racine, WI, and by 1869 had engineered and built Case Steam Engine Number One. Subsequently, Case began producing a whole line of self-propelled traction engines, portable engines, twine binder machines, separators, stackers, and more. Their road building machinery line-up included not only Case steamrollers, but also rock crushers, elevators, screens and bins. Textured printed burgundy softcovers, black lettering, metal spiral-bound as issued, fold at center (some age toning, rubbing, minor scuffing, couple leaves w/ minor closed tears), still a VG copy. First edition of this surprisingly scarce t…railer and heavy equipment catalogue issued by the Wisconsin-based manufacturer at the outset of the Great Depression. The photographs depict the production facilities, the machine shop, pattern shop, chemical & mechanical laboratories, as well as detailing the development of the Martin Rocking Fifth Wheel hitch, and the series of patents up to 1921 allowing for heavier semi-trailers, and travel trailers. The wide varieties of models, clients, and advertising are all included from dairy company's to Schlitz Beer, specialized pole digging equipment and heavy equipment for installing telephone lines, and more. The company was founded originally by Menhall in 1917 in Beloit, WI, who later leased the Edgerton Wagon Works to begin production before buying the site to expand his factory. The company specialized in commercial semi-trailers as well as small produce trailers, and would later become a major supplier for the U.S. Army and Navy during World War II. No copies in Worldcat.

Seven original paintings. Oblong folio. 20 x 15 in., painted in muted gouache on Crescent Illustration Board, No. 300, with original label indicating the board were purchased from the Duedall-Potts Stationers in downtown Albany, OR, and all are signed by the artist (minor age toning & wear to fore-edges, very slight scuffing), s…till an excellent bright group. This series of military industrial concept art paintings appear to have been executed sometime around 1960, and most likely for articles in Popular Mechanics, Mechanix Illustrated, or military-specific periodicals focusing on weapons development. The first painting captures a jet (close to the Lockheed F-104, but tale configuration different) bombing a section of jungle with massive explosion in center of painting; 4-tracked dozer & trailer being lowered by Sikorsky dual-rotor helicopter into the debris; the caterpillar 4-tracked dozer then clearing the debris, and finally being reloaded into dual-rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Other proposed military applications for the same four-track platform were an ambulance in battlefield conditions, with one soldier carrying another to the open back door; four-tube rocket launcher featuring sharp angles and planes foreshadowing the ungainly Tesla Truck, and finally portable communications with revolving antenna and operator in rear half of the four-track vehicle. Although the proposed innovations as depicted in the concept art do not specifically mention a manufacturer, or company, these appear to be quite similar in operation and construction as the famed Tucker Sno-Cat 4-track vehicles, which were historically developed and built in the company factory based out of Medford, Oregon, and famously used by Sir Vivian Fuchs in crossing Antarctica overland in 1958. Calson (1927-2009) was a Detroit-born commercial artist, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then the Army Air Force, and later studied at Art Center. He became a noted industrial illustrator, and commercial artist, as well as farmer and woodworker. He was also well-known for his set designs, and backdrops for the Lebanon Theater Workshop in Albany, Oregon.
