Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Since his mother died earlier this year, Grover Johnston (named after a character in Thomas Wolfe's>Look Homeward Angel) has watched his family fall to pieces as his father throws himself into his work rather than dealing with the pain. Left to care for his younger sister, Sudie, Grover finds solace in creating intricate weavings out of the natural materials found in the bamboo forest behind his North Carolina home, a pursuit that his father sees only as a waste of time. But as tensions mount between father and son, unlikely forces conspire to help the Johnstons find their way. The new tenants in the rental house across the street who have come from deep in the Carolina hills seem so different from the Johnstons, but become increasingly intertwined with them in unexpected ways. Classmates, neighbors, teachers, and coworkers band together, forming a community that can save a family from itself. In the spirit of such beloved novels as Newbery Medal-winning>Missing May and>Because of Winn-Dixie, What I Came to Tell You, the first middle-grade novel from critically acclaimed Asheville author Tommy Hays, is a story of grief, love, and hard-won redemption. Warm, evocative writing blends with an emotion-laden narrative that cuts to the heart of the reader.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. Prate Marshbanks proposed to his future wife on a muggy July night at Pete's Drive-in back in '52. "She said yes to me between bites of a slaw burger all-the-way." A college graduate and daughter of a prominent lawyer, Irene was an unlikely match for Prate, a high school dropout. He lived his married life aware of the question on people's minds: How in the world did a tall, thin, fair-skinned beauty and one of the most respected high school English teachers in all of Greenville County, in all of South Carolina for that matter, wind up married to a short, dark, fat-faced, jug-eared house painter? That their marriage not only survived for fifty years, but flourished, is a source of constant wonder to Prate. Now he faces a new challenge with Irene. From the author of In The Family Way, a novel the Atlanta Constitution called "an instant classic" and the Charlotte Observer praised as "a lovely, moving book," comes a powerful story of hard-earned hope. The Pleasure Was Mine takes place during a critical summer in the life of Prate Marshbanks, when he retires to care for his wife, who is gradually slipping away. To complicate things, Prate's son, Newell, a recently widowed single father, asks Prate to keep nine-year-old Jackson for the summer. Though Prate is irritated by the presence of his moody grandson, during the summer Jackson helps tend his grandmother, and grandfather and grandson form a bond. As Irene's memory fades, Prate, a hardworking man who has kept to himself most of his life, has little choice but to get to know his family. With elegance and skillful economy of language, Tommy Hays renders an unforgettable character in Prate Marshbanks. The Pleasure Was Mine is at once a quietly wrenching portrayal of grief, a magical and romantic story about the power of love, and an unexpectedly moving take on the resilience of family.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. 365 Day Prayer Devotional written every morning in real time from real life in a daily adventure of contemplative, centering prayer to start each day embraced by the love of the Father, centered in Jesus Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Good morning, Lord Jesus. For many years now, I've begun my morning prayer time with these first words on my heart. They've become my centering thought and my call to prayer, to start my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. As soon as I speak out these words, my spirit seems to come to attention to sense the Presence of the Lord and listen for the leading of the Holy Spirit to guide me in my time of intimacy with God at the beginning of my day. Then each morning, after I greet the Lord, I wait and listen. In my prayers, you'll see a . after I greet the Lord and begin to wait in the silence of surrender before Him in the deep communion of prayer. Sometimes that . lasts a few moments and sometimes it lasts half an hour. But I try to watch and wait to follow His leading for the adventure of prayer He has for me each morning. As the old hymn written by Rev. Thomas Chisholm and based on Lamentations 3:22-23 so beautifully says, Great is Thy faithfulness. Great is Thy faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see. During this simple, quiet time of watching and waiting in contemplative prayer, the Holy Spirit so faithfully brings to mind a Scripture or allows me to picture an image with the eyes of my heart or speaks to my spirit in His still, small voice or however the Lord desires to reveal Himself to me that morning. Then I simply journal what I hear and pray, as He leads me on our adventure of prayer. As I say my Amen, I send out my prayer from that day to the list of people that has grown over the years who join with me over the internet in this daily journey of prayer. So these prayers are written in real time from real life each day. This book is one year's worth of these prayers, selected from my journals over the past few years. It's a second edition, following my original book that was a collection of all my prayers from the first year of my devotional back in 2004. So I welcome you to come along with me in this daily journey of prayer, seeking the Lord's voice, listening for His voice, and embracing His Presence, in the deep communion of contemplative prayer. May you be encouraged each day by our great and faithful God in His new mercies for you, Morning by Morning In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays San Antonio, Texas December 2016.…
