An exceptionally scarce limited signed German First World War satire, privately printed in Kowno for the occupying administration in Lithuania, containing humorous verses and portraits of officers, not intended for public circulation. Bound in a full calf binding.A vanishingly scarce copy of this work, printed for a closed circulation of 500 numbered copies, each hand-numbered and signed on the limitation page by all three compilers: Hauptmann Schmidt, Regierungsassessor Schlat, and Rittmeister Dr. Steffens, of which this copy is number 3.Printed in Kovno (Kaunas) as a 1916 Christmas gift-book for officers of the German occupying administration in Lithuania, consisting of humorous and mocking poems about individual officers, often containing attitudes and caricatures now considered outdated, each paired with a caricature portrait.A regimental satire album, intended only for the men named in it. Among them the aristocrat Franz Joseph Fürst von Isenburg-Birstein, later head of the House of Isenburg, and Dr. Freiherr Heyl zu Herrnsheim of the prominent industrial family, alongside many other traceable Prussian cavalry and administrative officers. In a full calf binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in slight loss to calf. The odd minor handling mark to boards. Bookplate to front paste down of L. Jaller. Offsetting to endpapers. Small archival and library stamps to front paste down and title page. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges strained in places, occasionally with binding materials slightly exposed, but firm. Pages bright and clean with the odd handling mark and spot. Very Good Indeed.
