Original brown cloth covered boards with Arabic lettering in gilt to upper board and gilt lettering to spine. Light rubbing to extremities of boards. Spine cloth a little darkened. Splitting to lower half of the hinge between the front pastedown and free endpaper, not currently affecting the book's integrity. Three tears along folds in the map, restricted in the main to the margin. Text-block sound and pages remain bright.

Pasha (1840-1892) was an Ottoman-German Jewish physician and naturalist, and governor of the Egyptian province of Equatoria on the Upper Nile. The Ottoman empire conferred the title "Pasha" on him in 1886, and thereafter he was referred to Emin Pasha.Complete with the two tissue-guarded portraits of Pasha plus a large, folding coloured map (in excellent condition, with just one small blank margin repair. The text is in very good+, tight, clean condition. "Sutton 1889" inscribed on front end paper. Negligible age-browning. The brown cloth binding, with gilt titles and motif on front and spine, is in very good, tight condition, with very minor wear. 547 pages. See photographs of this actual book attached.
