soft. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Harold and Sylvia's Book of Revelations, Sylvia Hikins & Harold Hikins â" 1st Edition Publication: Liverpool, Toulouse Press, 1974 Formatting: 8vo; loosely inserted printed ephemera. Condition Report: Very Good. The saddle-stitched binding remains tight and secure, though the glossy black wrappers exhibit some light handling wear, including a minor diagonal crease to the lower front corner and faint rubbing along the spine fold. The internal pages are remarkably bright and clean, free from any foxing or notable blemishes, with only the faintest hint of age-toning to the extreme edges. Crucially, the suite of loose, brightly coloured printed inserts remains fully intact, vibrant, and free of any tears, preserving the interactive nature of the publication. Catalogue Note: First Edition. A quintessential example of 1970s Merseyside counterculture and small-press publishing. This multimedia poetry collection captures the irreverent performance style of Harold and Sylvia Hikins, fixtures of the local arts scene who frequently appeared on Radio Merseyside and at regional poetry festivals. The publication combines a standard staple-bound booklet with a suite of brightly coloured loose printed inserts, including jokes, cartoons, and drawings, that readers are meant to interact with. The rear wrapper features a provocative nude photograph of the authors holding a banjo, credited to Harold and Sylvia, cementing the book's bohemian charm. Given its fragile format and the ephemeral nature of the loose inserts, surviving complete copies are scarce on the open market. A vibrant relic of the 1970s Liverpool poetry scene, Harold and Sylvia's Book of Revelations captures the spirited, performative essence of the beloved local literary duo. Frustrated by the limitations of traditional print, the authors designed this collection to be an immersive experience. Embellished with cartoons, jokes, and an array of interactive ephemera laid in, the book seeks to recreate the lively, unapologetic atmosphere of their legendary spoken-word performances across Merseyside. Humorous, slightly scandalous, and completely authentic, this collection offers a brilliant snapshot of grassroots British counterculture. Sylvia Hikins (ilustrador).…

hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. First Edition. Building the Union: Studies on the growth of the workers' movement: Merseyside 1756â"1967, Edited by Harold R. Hikins â" First Edition Publication: Liverpool, Toulouse Press for the Liverpool Trades Council, 1973 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 198. Condition Report: Near Fine. The vibrant red cloth boards are wonderfully preserved, remaining sharp, square, and structurally rigid, with striking, unrubbed gilt titling to the front board and spine. The binding is remarkably tight and secure, giving the distinct impression that the volume has been scarcely read. Internally, the pages are crisp, bright, and free from any significant foxing, toning, or standard previous ownership signatures. The unclipped pictorial dust jacket presents very well, exhibiting only light superficial rubbing and minor creasing along the top edge, alongside very faint toning to the white background, yet it retains its striking cover illustration with excellent clarity and no significant loss. Catalogue Note: Published by Toulouse Press in 1973, this first edition was specially produced to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Liverpool Trades Council. The volume features a striking wraparound dust jacket reproducing Walter Craneâs famous socialist engraving, "The Triumph of Labour," which was originally designed in 1891 to mark International Labour Day. While copies of this regional history frequently surface on the secondary market, often heavily worn or relegated to ex-library stock, examples retaining such exceptionally clean cloth and a highly presentable dust jacket are notably uncommon. An essential anthology exploring the rich, radical history of working-class politics and trade unionism on Merseyside. Edited by Harold R. Hikins, this collection brings together detailed studies by local historians on key moments in Liverpool's labour history, ranging from the earliest origins of working-class politics and the establishment of trade unions to the syndicalist movements and major transport strikes of the early twentieth century. It stands as a vital historical record of the city's labour traditions and the enduring legacy of the Liverpool Trades Council. Walter Crane (ilustrador).…
