Contemporary half calf, spine richly gilt. The cooper-engraved plates in bright, shinning contemporary colouring, show plants, flowers, fruits, herbs etc. The fi…rst two volumes of this series which is almost impossible to be found complete. "Today, the work appears to be of extreme rarity, not being held in any other of the United Kingdom's national or public library collections. Only three copies have been found in North American Libraries, of which two are certainly fragile and in need of conservation. One copy is in the Austrian National Library" (Great Flower Books 1990, p. 147). The Viennese physician Vietz began the publication of this monumental work in 1800, and the last volume was finished in 1820, with only the first three volumes beeing edited by himself. - Edges of the decorative binding a bit rubbed, otherwise a fine copy. - Nissen BBI 2062.
