It is, in some ways, a curious document, written as a Christmas present for two of his sons in 1817, to accompany a draft trust document for his wife and daughters, to which he makes constant reference. The extensive editorial commentary illuminates the early pages of the work, and becomes essential for some of the later parts where Hansard, a highly professional printer but an unpractised author, lapses into the perfunctory and obscure. The delightful early part of the Autobiography was first published in Trewin and King's long out of print Printer to the House, 1952. The full text first appeared in the Fleece Press's limited edition of 1991; the present reset edition accommodates some editorial revisions and an additional portrait." Binding and interior in overall very good condition.
