Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the concept of the watershed, namely, the boundary between two or more drainage basins. The author takes a multifaceted approach, meticulously examining the myriad ways in which watersheds influence human activity, examining not only their effect on traffic patterns, but also cultural and economic significance. The author traces the evolution of human interaction with watersheds, spanning the entirety of human history. This sweeping analysis reveals the close relationship between human communities and watersheds, demonstrating that watersheds have influenced everything from trade and exploration to war and settlement patterns. Drawing from rich historical accounts, the author presents numerous illustrative examples to underscore the impact of watersheds on these activities. For example, the author discusses how the Nile River watershed shaped the development of ancient Egyptian civilization, how the Mississippi River watershed facilitated westward American expansion, and how the watersheds of Central Asia influenced the Silk Road. The author concludes by emphasizing the importance of watersheds in understanding how human societies have evolved and how they continue to interact with the natural world. Ultimately, this book offers a fresh perspective on watersheds, demonstrating that their influence extends far beyond hydrology and into the realm of human affairs. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
