paperback. Condición: Very Good. Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Añadir al carritoMagazine. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. Offered is the March 3, 1892 (Vol. VIII No. 9) issue of "Twentieth Century: A Weekly Radical Magazine" edited by Hugh O. Pentecost and published by the Twentieth Century Publishing Company out of New York City. A magazine measuring 8-7/8" by 12-1/4" and containing 24 pages including front and rear covers. With eight pages of vintage advertisements, contents of this issue include: Editorial by Hugh O. Pentecost, including "The Berlin Demonstration" (which reads in short part, "On February 25, in Berlin, a serious demonstration by real or so-called unemployed working men, variously estimated at from four thousand to ten thousand in number, was made, followed by fights with the police, resulting in arrests, woundings, and deaths" - "It is said they were led by Socialists and Anarchists, but probably they rushed on against the counsel of the wiser Socialists and Anarchists. Crowds have a fashion of acting wildly in moments of crises, and this crowd was probably no exception to the rule"); Editorial by Hugh O. Pentecost entitled "The Industrial Christian Alliance"; article "The Folly of Sacrifice" by Rev. Frank E. Mason [Rev. Mason was an Assistant Pastor to Mary Baker Eddy and Editor of the Christian Science Journal]; Chapter XVII of novel "The Journal of a Scientist During a Voyage to the Planet Mars" by Samuel H. King; article "The Marriage of God and the Devil" (a "lecture delivered at Berkeley Lyceum, Sunday evening, February 21, by Henry Frank, lecturer for the Society of Human Progress"); article "Funds to Spread Disease," an abstract from "The New Earth" by Bolton Hall (which begins, "There is a book about the size of the New Testament, a very sad book, and yet it is only a directory; a directory of the charities in New York; a sort of New Testament of the gospel of land owning. It is impossible to enumerate the nine hundred and ninety-two charities in it. Let us take some which are types. You will find your own pet charity is not different. The 'Fresh Air Fund' is a charming charity, well managed, and on a grand scale. A newspaper has taken eighty-two thousand children out for two weeks each in the last five years, at a cost of three hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars. Suppose the other funds have done as much. Suppose they have done ten times as much. Still the little ones die like rats in the sewers. One in every three; and death is not the worst"); Our Weekly News-Letter (news from various publications). A complete issue; covers light to moderately soiled, particularly along edge areas; narrow chipping (to blank margins only) along several upper page edges where the sheets had not been machine-cut, and the former owner separated the pages; interior pages age-toned.…

Añadir al carritoSingle Issue Magazine. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. San Francisco: Sierra Club, 1923. First Edition. Vol XI, No. 4, for 1923. This was published during a several-year time period when the Sierra Club did not stipulate the month of an issue, just the volume, the number, and the year - monthly designations for such an infrequent publication having always been somewhat unnecessary in any case. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", 115 pp. + numerous unpaginated photographic plates, features and ads, including a fold-out map (Grouse Meadows to Vidette Meadow) and a fold-out wide-angle photograph by W.H. Wright. Gray stapled wraps, rather than the usual medium brown. Very Good; circuit binding (yapp binding) was used, in which cover edges were intentionally extended out beyond page edges, but over time the extended part becomes pressed inward somewhat (see scan). Some damage at inside front hinge area, and some spine sunning and abrasion. A handsome copy. See scans. Binding sturdy, contents fine. See scan of contents page for the lineup of stellar club writers and their always engaging and adventurous topics. In addition to the graphics mentioned above, this issue is chock full of photographic plates by the club's best photographers, as well as others, including Robert L. Lipman, A.C. Lovekin, J.S. Hutchinson, James K. Moffitt, Ansel F. Hall, Frank A. Williamson, C.O. Schneider, W. Harris (an 1867 shot), Con L. Grover, Frederick H. Morley, Walter L. Huber, Chester Versteeg and several uncredited artists. SC2. Robert L. Lipman, A.C. Lovekin, J.S. Hutchinson, James K. Moffitt, Ansel F. Hall, Frank A. Williamson, C.O. Schneider, W. Harris, Con L.
