Soft cover. Condición: Good. A good copy with some minor light foxing to the prelims . There has never been a book about New Zealand politics like this before. Over a two year period, sources from inside the National Party provided Nicky Hager with an astonishing collection of internal reports, emails, appointment diaries, meeting minutes and face-to-face interviews, documenting the rise to power of Don Brash and a two year campaign to become government. The result is an unprecedented picture of the internal workings of a political party and a disturbing, but riveting study into the nature of modern politics. The National Party sources were prompted to blow the whistle because they believed their party was behaving in dishonest, unprincipled and even unlawful ways. In The Hollow Men we are able to see - up close and in the participants' own words - the secret backers behind Don Brash's successful leadership challenge; the precise details of the party's hidden alliances with the Exclusive Brethren church and others; the strategies behind the Orewa speeches; the identities of the big donors; the cynical imported election campaign techniques and foreign advisers used by the party; and much, much more. The book goes to the heart of why many New Zealanders feel disillusioned about politics. Nicky Hager believes that the way politicians and others in politics conduct themselves - the games they play to advance themselves - can harm the whole political system. Exposing their activities is the first step towards change.

Soft cover. Condición: As New. 1st Edition. A very close to new copy with a crossed out name. In August 2010, a New Zealand soldier died in a roadside bomb blast in Afghanistan. In retaliation, the New Zealand SAS led a raid on two isolated villages in search of the fighters they suspected were responsible. They all knew the rules. Prior to firing weapons, their freshly issued orders said, 'the commander approving the strike must determine that no civilians are present.' If they could not assess whether civilians were present, firing was prohibited. But it all went horribly wrong. None of the fighters were found but, by the end of the raid, 21 civilians were dead or wounded. Most were children or women, including a three-year-old girl who was killed. A dozen houses had been burnt or blown up. The operation was personally approved by the prime minister via phone from New Zealand. More missions against the group of fighters and more potential crimes of war followed, including the beating and torture of a prisoner. Afterwards no one took responsibility. The New Zealand military denied the facts and went to great lengths to cover things up. This book is the story of those events. It is, at heart, about the meaning of honour; about who we want to be and what we believe in as New Zealanders. (TM).

Soft cover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. Pen name. Early in 2014, Nicky Hager was leaked a large number of email and online conversations from Cameron Slater's Whale Oil blog. Many of these were between Slater and his personal allies on the hard right, revealing an ugly and destructive style of politics. But there were also many communications with the prime minister's office and other Cabinet ministers in the National Government. They show us a side of Prime Minister John Key and his government of which most New Zealanders are completely unaware. Key has constructed an easy-going and relaxed public image, declaring to the public that 'there's no room for negative campaigning in New Zealand'. The reality is very different. His government has worked hand in hand with Slater and his collaborators in a sustained campaign of personal attacks against their political enemies, a deliberate but hidden stragegy to avoid being held responsible for negative campaigning. Dirty Politics continues the story that began in Hager's best-selling book The Hollow Men, investigating the way that underhand and deceptive politics poisons the political environment for everyone. If you care about integrity and ethics in politics, then this book will be disturbing but essential reading.

Soft cover. Condición: VG+. No Jacket. Photos, Documents Ilustrador. 1st. Sub-titled "The Anatomy of an Anti-Environmental PR Campaign" is an "expose" of a controversial public relations campaign of the late 1990s, in which Government interests and PR worked to discredit environmental groups intent on protecting large areas of native forest on the West Coast of the South Island from exploitation. The logging company involved was a State-Owned enterprise and its PR connections were active in changing attitudes, which nationally largely opposed native forest felling. The book details and documents the various tactics adopted to bring this change about. Nicky Harger has written about controversial high level political issues in NZ in a number of hard-hitting books. His co-author in this "public interest" work is a prominant Australian environmemntal journalist. This copy a 1999 first edition. 286 pages including reading list, notes, index and glossary, b/w photos and document reproductions throughout, map etc, pictorial colour card covers VG+ with trace wear front edges, text block excellent, no inscriptions.

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. The Hollow Men. By Nicky Hager. Paperback, very good condition, minor shelf/edge wear. 351 pages. Published by Potton & Burton, 2005. ISBN: 187733362X. Illustrations.

Soft cover. Condición: Good. Dirty Politics. By Nicky Hager. Good SOFTBACK, tanning, small crease to corners, minor shelf/edge wear 166 pages. Published by Potton & Burton, 2014. All books are sent free by courier postage within New Zealand.
