ill. OPappband. / Hardcover. 1st ed. Sean Kerr: Pop is an artist`s book of concept drawings replete with a gorgeous die-cut tunnel and a new essay by Natasha Conland. The drawings collated for this volume float above projects executed by Kerr from the very late nineties until the present day. As such it operates as a spectral-partial survey catalogue for an exhibition that only exists as a sketch sandwiched between the white hardcovers of this new book. The book itself has the dimensions and object-feel of a children`s storybook, and this is no coincidence. As the insightful essay by Conland details, particular forms of simple humour where the fall-person thinks s/he is smarter than s/he is, are the spine of this bubbling, chattering, clicking, whirring and exploding body of work. Kerr`s work tends to be let down by the term New Media. Kerr employs technology, yes, but there is so much life breathed into his many schemes, by way of the various characters and situation comedies he has presented us with, that he makes the monster of technological stock-in-trades walk and talk. These drawings some hand-wrought and some out-putted, along with digital grabs of studies rendered in computerland have the air of being made by a well-meaning, very sweet computer that just wants to join in, or even help. This cleverly conceived book gently complicates any idea of a simple successful, adult relationship between man and machine. Design by Warren Olds and Sean Kerr. Paperback. Condición: Good. In 2013, City Gallery Wellington presented the exhibition New Revised Edition which investigated painting in the digital age. Chartwell's Fallin', by Nick Austin, "tests the limits of the idea of painting as a window on the world: rain represented by string, falls in apostrophes on a flat painted background. " (City Gallery Wellington 2013). Austin exhibited alongside Andrew Barber, John Ward Knox and Nicola Farquhar. The exhibition was a response to the 2007 Adam Art Gallery show Four Times Painting, which explored painting's relation to time, and featured Simon Ingram, Julian Dashper, Isobel Thom, and Shane Cotton. Works from the Chartwell Collection were also included in that exhibition including by Julian Dashper and Simon Ingram. Mark on back where sticker has been removed. 71 pages.…

Hardcover. Condición: Good. 240 pages. tidy copyLIVING HALLS represents the findings of an ambitious research project undertake n by Fiona Jack based in the study and cataloguing of New Zealand war memorial h alls. Following the Second World War, government funds were made available for c ommunities to plan and apply for support for memorial halls. Hundreds of these b uildings, in what became a vernacular tradition, now form a chain of public spac e the length of the country. Jack has compiled a list of all extant halls and is working with people living in proximity to the halls to provide paintings of th em. She is also making paintings herself based on the original applications made by communities now kept in the National Archives. LIVING HALLS will feature wri ting by architectural historian Bill McKay, fiction by Los Angeles writer Janet Sarbanes and writing by Jack herself. Jack has been artist-in-residence at the G ovett-Brewster Art Gallery during the 2009-2010 summer, and the gallery will co- publish the book with Clouds. The publication has received major funding from th e University of Auckland's Elam School of Fine Arts Research Fund.--Publisher's description.…
