Like many politicians, he was both loved and hated, and it is easy to find both praise and contempt aimed at him. He spent his final years composing his memoirs (Gedanken und Erinnerungen, or Thoughts and Memories). The author of this article claims, as have many others, that Bismarck was not faithful to history, but used his pen to increase the drama around every event and to always present himself favorably. Wow, I just can't imagine a politician doing such a thing.
