Bilingual edition of the Italian author's oft-reprinted tragicomic poem set in Arcadia, nicely illustrated with bucolic scenes by the Dutch engraver Jacobus Harrewyn (1660-1727).

Reliure en plein veau, discret filet noir pressé à froid en encadrement des plats, dos à quatre nerfs, caissons fleuronnés au fer, pièce de titre en maroquin bordeaux, titre et auteur en capitales dorées, roulette sur les coupes et les chasses, tranches dorées. A noter le magnifique papier marbré utilisé sur les contre-plats et pour les gardes. Etat: traces d'usage sur les plats, coins légèrement effilés, coiffe supérieure entamée. Papier lun peu jauni, quelques rousseurs isolées, sinon exemplaire bien propre et de très belle présentation. Poète et diplomate italien de la fin de la Renaissance, Giovanni Battista Guarini (1538-1612) a publié «Il pastor fido» (Le Berger fidèle) à Venise en 1590. Cette pastorale, écrite en vers libres et sous forme de tragi-comédie, a été souvent représentée et a connu un retentissement européen. La traduction d'Antoine de Torche (1631-1675) a donné lieu à partir de 1666 à plusieurs éditions dont celle de 1702. Elle présente le texte original italien en page de gauche et sa traduction française en page de droite.
