With 5 illustrations & one printed plastic overlay sheet.Gruppo N (Gruppo Enne) was born from the ashes of Gruppo Ennea (meaning ?nine" in Greek), an association of artists founded in 1959 in Padua and formed by nine members, most of whom were students of the Faculty of Architecture in Venice: Tino Bertoldo, Alberto Biasi, Tolo Custoza, Sara Ivanoff, Bruno Limena, Manfredo Massironi, Milla Muffato, Gianfilippo Pecchini and Gaetano Pesce. Gruppo N was eventually to disband in 1964 due to internal disputes over their creative process. After a few months Massironi, Biasi and Landi founded the short-lived Gruppo Enne 65, which continued to work on the themes of op art and ambient environment processes. This is the catalogue of one of the few exhibitions staged by the group, held at the Galleria la Polena, Genoa, July 1965. Complete with the printed transparent overlay sheet which transforms the initial illustration into an Op-art visual experience.…

Añadir al carritoCover sheet + 7 leaves; cover sheet + 8 leaves. Gruppo N (Gruppo Enne) was born from the ashes of Gruppo Ennea (meaning ?nine" in Greek), an association of artists founded in 1959 in Padua and formed by nine members, most of whom were students of the Faculty of Architecture in Venice: Tino Bertoldo, Alberto Biasi, Tolo Custoza, Sara Ivanoff, Bruno Limena, Manfredo Massironi, Milla Muffato, Gianfilippo Pecchini and Gaetano Pesce. In 1960 the group was reduced to five members, Alberto Biasi, Ennio Chiggio, Toni Costa, Edoardo Landi and Manfredo Massironi) and took on its definitive name. The group opposed the figure of the artist, which they considered a legacy of idealist and spiritualist criticism, and the members of Gruppo N often worked collectively, following Marxist tenets, whereby all artworks were conceived and created collectively, with no singular author. Gruppo N was based in via San Pietro 3 in Padua, and these premises were also used for the dissemination and promotion of neo-avant-garde art through exhibitions, conferences, conventions and debates outside the traditional gallery circuits. The group?s headquarters in Padua quickly became an important centre for experimental art, music, and poetry. During the 1960s, Gruppo N was important in the development of Op art in Italy. The group was interested in marking art that explored the optical possibilities of viewership. They created paintings and installations that have surfaces that change in appearance depending on the angle a spectator is perceiving them, giving the illusory sensation of movement. The groups?s manifestos and writings were published in these two typescript stapled pamphlets. In these writings the five artists declared themselves ?disegnatori sperimentali? or ?experimental draftsmen? free from any plans or artistic tendencies and sharing in the search for a new definition of art that would integrate painting, sculpture, architecture, and industrial production. Such a unification of art and politics, which had a significant role in the group?s formation, also lead to its eventual dissolution. The collectivism of Marxism, in the end, proved to be ill-suited and Gruppo N was eventually to disband in 1964 due to internal disputes over their creative process. Original copies of the group?s manifestos are rare. [WorldCat lists no holdings]. Each volume composed of sheets of typescript, printed rectos only. Side-stapled.
