Contains 204 letters to J. A. De Thou (Thaunus), Salmasius & others. Bound in full, red morocco leather with five raised bands on the spine, with spine gilt-lettered: H. GROTIUS ELZEVIR 1650., simple gilt lines across spine, and as borders around the covers, gilt dentelles on leather turn-ins; all edges gilt, sewn headbands, with cream-colored, coated paper endpapers. Binding is unsigned, from the 1820-80 period. With the William S. Stone bookplate (with medical symbols in the upper corners of the plate). Spine ends, outer hinges, cover corners & edges show slight wear, with some leather surface worn off, front inner hinge is starting; titlepage shows some brown spotting, ink underlining, stains to pp. 15-16; in rebinding, some of the top-edge was shaved away, with occasional, partial damage to page numbers, headings.
