Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on the logging industry and uncovers the impact of logging operations on the environment, particularly the volume of leftover wood, or "residue," left behind after harvesting. The author conducted a survey of logging operations to estimate the volume of logging residu…e in relation to the volume of saw logs harvested in Idaho and Montana. The study revealed conversion factors that can be applied to product volume to estimate total removals from inventory, as well as residue volume as a percentage of saw log volume. The book delves into the causes of residue, such as felling and skidding, and provides insights into the relative importance of each factor. It also addresses the number of trees removed from growing stock inventory by logging, examining the diameter distribution of harvested trees. The findings presented in this book are significant as they contribute to the understanding of the environmental impacts of logging operations and provide valuable data for forest management and conservation efforts. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
