Publisher's original pebbled green cloth, boards decorated in blind, spine lettered and ornamented in gilt, yellow glazed endpapers; edges untrimmed. An attractive mid-Victorian reissue of Bentley's influential one-volume edition of Mansfield Park. Bentley's 1833 edition was the first one-volume and first illustrated edition of the novel; the present 1856 edition preserves the engraved illustrations introduced in that edition and is particularly appealing in its original publisher's decorative cloth. Contents generally clean and unmarked apart from a previous owner's pencilled notation to the front free endpaper. Binding remains sound and square. Cloth shows light shelf wear at the head and foot of the spine; corners gently bumped, with light bumping to the lower fore-corner of the front board. Gilt remains bright and attractive.
