The author posits that the commission of Christ in the New Testament restricts the practice of baptism to believers and excluding infants and unbelievers. The provided text is an excerpt from the book's fifth proposition, "Believers in Christ are the only subjects Christ commanded his apostles to baptize." The author provides textual analysis in support of his proposition and engages with opposing arguments, such as the prevalent practice of infant baptism in many Christian denominations. The excerpt concludes with an assertion that the position of infant baptism is untenable and that the practice of baptism should be reserved solely for those who have made a conscious decision to follow Christ. This book is an essential resource for those seeking a thorough examination of the historical, theological, and practical aspects of baptism, particularly in relation to the ongoing debate about the baptism of infants. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the historical debate concerning the practice of infant baptism. The core issue at play is whether the ritual is sanctioned by the teachings of the Bible. Through an analysis of relevant scriptures and historical accounts, the author meticulously examines the arguments supporting infant baptism as practiced by some Protestant denominations, specifically focusing on the Methodist Church. The author meticulously dissects the concept, exploring its origins, its theological underpinnings, and its implications for Christian practice. Offering a thorough examination of the historical evidence, the book challenges the notion that infant baptism can be traced back to apostolic times or the early church. Instead, it argues that the practice emerged much later, rooted in theological interpretations rather than explicit biblical directives. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very good-. Third printing. Small quarto, 1184pp. Stated "third thousand." A restored copy, bound in the publisher's green cloth and rebacked with original spine laid down, new endpapers to the front, and the inner hinges strengthened. A sound, firmly bound example; about very good. Very uncommon massive record of a debate between these two preachers. Graves represented the Baptist side, and Ditzler the Methodist side. Though at the time Methodism was not so popular in the American South, Ditzler was apparently a highly engaged supporter of the Confederacy dring the Civil War, taking his evangelism for both God and country (the CSA) abroad during that period (per his obituary). Any 19th century printing of this epic tome is scarce in commerce; we cannot find any auction listings in the past fifty years, nor any in commerce as of this listing. OCLC holdings are generally restricted to regional religious institutions.
