Aurora, Illinois is written underneath the Authors signature on each book. All other pages are clean and unmarked. Charles Pierce Burton (1862?1949) was a newspaper columnist and author of the "Bob's Hill" young adult books. Burton was born in Anderson, IN, in Madison County. As a child, Burton moved to Adams, MA, where he hiked around a ridge called Bob's Hill on the eastern slope of Mt. Greylock in Berkshire County. This ridge and the town of Adams would be the setting of the "Bob's Hill Series books. After the death of his mother, Burton and his father moved to Aurora, IL. Burton attended East Aurora High School, where he graduated in 1880. This is the fourth novel in the Bob's Hill Series. (Frontispiece and three others) by Gordon Grant on coated paper. Mattson #08800. Gordon Hope Grant (1875-1962) was an American artist, well-known for his maritime watercolors, and his work with the American Boy Scouts. His best known work is likely his watercolor of the USS Constitution. He also produced war time posters during WW I, and illustrations for books such as Penrod, and magazine covers for periodicals such as Saturday Evening Post and illustrations for Boys' Life. He was the cover designer for the first edition of the Boy Scout Handbook in 1911. He was born in San Francisco in 1875, and died in 1962. Mattson #08800. Scarce, especially Signed.
