Añadir al carritoWraps. Condición: good. Andrea J. Kron, and Christopher D. Brigman Ilustrador. 28 cm, vi, 212 pages. W/raps. Illustrations (some in color). Improving predictive capability is an implicit goal in the major missions of Los Alamos National Laboratory: simulating performance of weapons in the stockpile, quantifying uncertainties in those simulations, and developing strategies to mitigate global threats. Success in achieving this goal depends on closely coordinating theory, experiment, and computer simulation. This issue of Los Alamos Science presents examples from across the Laboratory. This issue contains articles on weapons outlook, uncertainty quantification, materials, computer networks, computational biology, turbulence, and numerical methods. Los Alamos Science, the flagship publication of Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1980 through 2005, was distributed to the international scientific community, academic libraries, and US government policymakers. It presented a coherent picture of some of the most exciting scientific initiatives of the Laboratory and served as a forum for LANL scientists to display the breadth and depth of their research and its significance to national security. A hallmark of Los Alamos Science was the development of pedagogical articles that tackle difficult concepts. These presentations were intended to foster interdisciplinary research, enabling scientists in one field to become familiar with the ideas and techniques of another field. The entire set of thirty Los Alamos Science volumes was inspired by the great science and dedication to freedom of the Manhattan Project era and reflects the continuing dedication of the LANL staff to those ideals. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus.
