The boards are firm and flat, a little shelf-cocked; spine ends and corners bumped and fayed and a little marked around the edges. Clean black end papers. The text block is quite firm; the end pages and last few text pages, the early Prelims and the cut edges are tanned. The main block is very lightly tanned around the edges. A most interesting manuscript containing the copies of letters written (and some received) by the Marquess of Granby for the years 1852-1858, covering a very wide range of subject matters including military and including letters to such as Lord Palmerston. Granby was the MP for Stamford, Lincolnshire and Prince Albert's Lord of the Bedchamber from 1843-46. He was a Protectionist and Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire. Beautifully bound in contemporary full black morocco, gilt panelling to the boards, the spines with raised bands and gilt panels, lettering direct. Hinges and joionts all secure. A near fine copy of this important record relating to mid-Victorian Lincolnshire and beyond, worthy of further research.…
