He received The George Cross along with the island population in recognition of their valor. Introduction by W.G.S. Dobbie dated September, 1944 at London. 124 pp.14 chapters, plus three pp. of publisher advertisements. Book has black text on front and spine, frontis - b/w photograph of author. Extremities of book show wear, underlining and few notations in green pencil (thus easily erasable). Book is tight and square. Bookseller's Inventory # 191496.

Having failed to meet him that day, he is availing himself of the recipient's 'kind offer to Mrs M. OF.' He draws a diagram of 'a figure mounted on a cross' which he wishes Nugent to get for him: 'The figure is a new composition perfect imitation of Ivory and was made at Brussels. The cross should be made of black wood to stand on the pedestal as represented on the other side.' Mrs O'Ferrall will leave the figure for him at the British Hotel, Jermyn Street, 'where it may be sent for by the man you employ'. He is sure the task 'could not be in better hands [.] for getting it well done', and concludes: 'If you come to Ireland during winter mind to come and see me'.
