In mei 1853 gaf Salvador in het kader van zijn kandidatuur voor de Tweede Kamer lezingen in het Amsterdamse Odéon. He…t ging zowel Salvador als de zeer vele toehoorders om sensatie, zodat de politie er aan te pas moest komen. Op 24 mei keerde het publiek zich tegen de spreker, zong een spotlied en hief na 'hoeden af' spontaan het volkslied. Daarna klommen de mannen in de zaal over de stoelen om zich op Salvador te storten. Ondanks de bescherming van de politie liep deze toch enige klappen op. In deze brochure, geschreven door de uitgever A.H. van Gorcum, komt ook een liedje van H.J. Burlage ter sprake.
