September 1985) war ein US-amerikanischer Physiker und Physiologe.Ab 1939 untersuchte er mit dem Neurologen Harold G. Wolff (1898?1962) und der Forschungsmedizinerin Helen Goodell die Schmerzschwelle bei Temperaturempfinden (Dol-Einheit 1947). Sie testeten damit auch Analgetika. Mit beiden veröffentlichte er 1952 das Buch Pain sensations and reactions. With a collegial 1955 typed letter signed laid in from noted psychologist Ward Edwards, recommending this book to the psychologist mentioned above, who had written Edwards to request his offprint on pain perception: "Although I disagree with many of the things it says, I still consider it the best source I know of for information about pain perception." Edwards' 1950 paper on the topic is listed in the bibliography.
