Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. GROSSCHMID Géza, Dr.: Kisebbségi sors [Minority Fate] Kassa [Kosice], 1930. The Author. 499 p. First edition. In the publisher's gilt full cloth binding. Inscribed by the author to the editor-in-chief of the Kassai Ujság. "Kövess Illés dr. föszerkesztö úrnak baráti megemlékezésül: Kassa, 1931. febr. 10. - Dr. Grosschmid Géza" The author, Sándor Márai's father, was a senator of Kassa and a member of the National Assembly. The volume contains all his speeches, parliamentary bills, and interpellations delivered in the National Assembly between 1918 and 1929, as well as his newspaper articles and occasional speeches. Dr. Géza Grosschmid (1872 - 1934) was one of the most respected figures of the old, classic bourgeoisie of Kassa, an excellent lawyer, and a politician. Not incidentally, he is the father of one of the greatest figures of 20th-century Hungarian literature, Sándor Márai (who was originally born as Sándor Károly Henrik Grosschmid), as well as the famous film director Géza Radványi. After Kassa was annexed to the newly formed Czechoslovakia following the Treaty of Trianon, Grosschmid did not flee. He stayed, and as a member of the Czechoslovak National Assembly (Senate), representing the National Christian Socialist Party, he fought a hard, principled legal and political battle for years for the survival and minority rights of the Hungarians in the Felvidék [Upper Hungary/Slovakia]. Kisebbségi sors is the imprint of the most difficult period between 1918 and 1929. Starting with the shock of the change of sovereignty, it presents the daily struggles fought against the Czechoslovak state machinery. The speeches, interpellations, and bills included in the volume provide a perfect (and often painful) picture of how a lawyer tried to cling to the letter of the law in an era when politics often overrode the law. This is the milieu, the world of the "bourgeois of Kassa," which his son, Sándor Márai, later immortalized in his novels. ( O,O ) /)__) , , Inscribed by Author(s).
