Añadir al carritoThree books bound in one. Includes a HYMNAL (1819, 24th edition), PRAYER BOOK, and book of EPISTLES AND GOSPELS. (The latter two are undated without statement of edition, but as the binding clasp is dated "1820," we presume they were published in 1820 or earlier.) 16mo vellum-covered wood boards gilt-stamped and painted with var…ious folk-art style flowers and scroll-like designs surrounding, somewhat incongruously, the battle scenes depicted at centers of front and back covers; ornate sliver clasps etched with hearts and flowers; endpapers painted pale blue-green; all edges gilt and gauffered (i.e., stamped with a design); 510 pages plus "Register", 32 pages, and 64 pages, respectively. Although generally known as "peasant bindings" ("Bauern Einbände"), this style binding is not believed to have been intended for "peasants" due to the overall ornate design. The clasp on this one is faintly etched on inner side with initials "MTM" and date "1820," seemingly indicating the date of the binding as well. Vellum covers splitting from boards at edges, faded and worn; and clasp tarnished --but binding is overall tight and sound. Interior nearly fine.
