Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This 19th century book details the dangers of using arsenic insecticides in agriculture. The book focuses primarily on the adulteration of paris green pigment, a green pigment originally made from copper acetoarsenite, with other substances such as white arsenic, calcium carbonate, and barium sulfate. The author analyzes the dangers of these adulterated pigments, describing the harm they can cause both to plants and to humans. The book's key insight is that the adulteration of paris green with white arsenic is dangerous, and the use of adulterated paris green should be avoided. The author provides a detailed description of methods to test paris green for the presence of white arsenic. The book also discusses safer alternatives to paris green, such as lead arsenate and lime arsenite, and provides methods for their preparation. This book is a valuable resource for those interested in the history of pesticides and the dangers of adulteration in agricultural products. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Añadir al carritoOriginal Printed Wrappers. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. San Francisco: Sierra Club, 1925. First Edition. Vol XII, No. 2, for 1925. This was published during a several-year time period when the Sierra Club did not stipulate the month of an issue, just the volume, the number, and the year- monthly designations for such an infrequent publication having always been somewhat unnecessary in any case. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", 102 pp. + unpaginated photographic plates, features and ads, including a plate fold-out with two panoramic wide angles, from Mount Hamilton, by William H. Wright. Very Good plus, really quite close to near fine; the major flaw being the common one that circuit binding (yapp binding) was used, in which cover edges were intentionally extended out beyond page edges, but over time the extended part becomes pressed inward somewhat (see scan). One notable rear-cover chip at top, about 1" x 1.5". Otherwise, just occasional very small points of cover wear. A very handsome copy. See scans. Binding sturdy, contents fine. See scan of contents page for the lineup of stellar club writers and their always engaging and adventurous topics. In addition to the graphics mentioned above, this issue is chock full of photographic plates by the club's best photographers, as well as others. In addition to a serious passel of photos by Walter Huber and Fred Herz, there are photo contributions by T.J. Hellman, Inez Mexia, William E. Colby, Joseph Dixon, H.P. Rankin, Frank H. Lewis, Philip S. Carlton, William H. Wright, Lee L. Stopple, Quong Jue, R.L. van Oosting, and several uncredited. SC2. Walter Huber, Fred Herz, T.J. Hellman, Inez Mexia, William E. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/2" x 6 3/8", 121 pp. + ads + plus numerous unpaginated photographs throughout. The inevitable slight cover edge overlap curl, caused by the circuit-binding practice of SCB at the time, else Near Fine, with just a somewhat darkened spine and the faint rubber stamp of California attorney A.L. McCamman to point out. Clean, bright, binding sturdy. See scans. Photographs in this issue are by Marion R. Parsons, A.C. Shelton, Walter L. Huber, H.H. Bliss, A.L.Jordan, Harold C. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. Fully collated and complete against the plate index on page 336. The First Official Geological Map of Ireland: It was originally created for a provisional edition of the memoir presented at the 1835 Dublin meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. This makes it the very first official, government-sanctioned geological map published for any part of Ireland. This exceptionally complete 1837 first edition of the Ordnance Survey of the County of Londonderry (Volume the First) remains preserved in its original publisher's brown cloth binding, featuring prominent blind-stamped decorative borders and gold-gilded spine lettering reading "City and N.Western Liberties." Intact and uniform, the text block contains the foundational, hand-colored "Geological Map of the Parish of Templemore" by J.E. Portlock alongside the highly detailed, uncolored folding 1835 City Plan of Londonderry facing the opening pages of the "Artificial State" section. The volume's extensive historical and structural documentation is further illustrated by text-embedded woodcuts of historic stone gateways, detailed layout engravings of the Forts of Donalong and Coolmore, and multiple architectural plates depicting the city's Corporation Hall and Town-House. Capturing the region's physical landscape and antiquities, the scenic full-page engraving "Londonderry from the S.W. Bastion" is accompanied by precise archaeological cross-sections of The Grianan of Aileach. The book concludes with the vital "List of Plates" index and a fully intact natural history appendix, showcasing well-preserved scientific engravings of local fossils and regional flora, including a rare, beautifully hand-colored botanical plate of Calamagrostis lapponica. Volume I, is the 1st and last as it was not continued. The ambitious project aimed to create a detailed historical and statistical memoir for every single parish in Ireland to complement the 6-inch Ordnance Survey maps. However, the immense cost, labor, and time required to compile this level of detail for just one parish (Templemore) forced the British government to officially cancel and discontinue the entire memoir scheme shortly after its release. Main 336 pages, multiple prints and Illustrations. Full list of plates are present. 16 pages of notices, 7 extra prints at end, fossils and ferns. 28x22x3 cm's. 1446 grams. Yellow end papers have a black smoky design to them. George McCoy: A prominent Dublin-based master engraver, George Victor Du Noyer, Captain Joseph Ellison Portlock, (ilustrador).…
