Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on the 1905 provincial election campaign in Peterborough and surrounding areas, examining the political landscape, local issues, and the performance of the incumbent Conservative government. The author analyzes the campaign tactics used by Liberal candidate C.A. Gillespie, including his platform of clean and honest elections, and his criticism of the government's broken promises and handling of local affairs. The book explores the Liberal Party's efforts to court rural voters, as well as the Conservative Party's attempts to retain control of the riding. It delves into specific cases of patronage and political favoritism by the Conservatives, and the impact these had on the outcome of the election. The author also examines the role of local newspapers and their coverage of the campaign, and how this influenced public opinion. Overall, the book provides valuable insights into the political dynamics of the time and the challenges faced by both parties in a closely fought election.
