Il est plus que probable, suite à divers travaux de recherches de plusieurs historiens, que le philosophe Pierre Abélard (ou Abeilard) a bel et bien séjourné et écrit à Maisoncelles (ou Mesoncelles). Dans cet ouvrage, Gabriel du Chaffault démontre cette affirmation s'appuyant, en particulier, sur le fait établi que la commune a été très liée à l'abbaye royale de Saint-Denis. La seigneurie de Maisoncelles est en effet cédée aux moines de Saint-Denis par une charte en l'an 675. Et Abélard s'est réfugié dans une de ses dépendances à quelques heures de marches de Lagny.
