Sie bildeten anscheinend die Bibliothek einer oberägyptischen Gnostikergemeinde. Die Schriften dieses Fundes stehen den beim Toten Meer gefundenen hebräischen Rollen an wissenschaftlicher Wichtigkeit nicht nach. Was bisher schon über sie und ihren Inhalt gesagt worden ist, hat das leb- hafte Interesse des Publikums und die Aufmerksamkeit der Gelehrten erweckt.
