The first in a series of extensive surveys of Empire, service and civil aviation and industry, covering Africa, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Imperial air services, flying clubs, air survey and photography. The series was founded and edited…by Squadron Leader C.G. Burge with the aim of strengthening imperial ties. This ran through several editions up to 1939. Original gilt-titled blue cloth 17x25cm in the very rare b/w illustrated jacket featuring a biplane and globe. lxv, 734pp with many in-text b/w photos, line drawings, and adverts +18 photogravure plates including frontis portrait of King George V + 2 colour plates + 5 maps (2 of which folding, including flying boat, airship, RAAF routes etc), all present as called for. Covers near fine lightly bumped and rubbed to the extremities. Interiors near fine with some spotting and slight soiling to text block edges, and short closed tears to the plate facing p136 and folding maps. The jacket, in a removable protector, is good with a 3x3cm triangular chip to the lower front edge (not affecting printed areas), minor loss to the edges, tanned and dusted. (Heavy, over 2kg packed).
