Añadir al carritoBrossura. Condición: nuovo. Università di Trento, 2011, 200 pp., ISBN 978-88-8443-383-1 -- What are language corpora? What is their role in discourse analysis? How are they useful for a study of news discourse? Can they provide meaningful data on how the same news event is covered in different countries and cultures? This book attempts to answer these questions by relating the findings of a corpus study of the way in which the Italian, British, and US American press represented the financial crisis and privatization of the Italian flag carrier, Alitalia. The corpora contain all the articles that were published on this news event by Repubblica, Corriere della Sera, The Times, The Financial Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, and The New York Times during the six months (August 2008-January 2009) that led to the privatization of Alitalia and its acquisition by CAI, a consortium of entrepreneurs coming from different fields of the Italian business community. Through an analysis of keywords, metaphors and Anglicisms, the main characteristics of the news discourse on Alitalia's crisis and privatization are identified and discussed.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This volume offers an in-depth corpus linguistic analysis of the word empathy aiming to foster unique insights into a word widely found across contemporary discourses and into methodological innovations for analyzing large corpora. Given the understanding of empathys importance for individual and social development, A Corpus Linguistic Approach to Analyzing Empathy demonstrates the potential of a corpus approach to shed new light on a significant yet difficult-to-define concept. Fusari systematically applies the use of concordances and other corpus output to derive patterns and recurrent phraseologies in the 36+ billion-word electronic corpus, English Web 2020, to help readers grapple with key ideas around empathy. Such questions include what we really mean by empathy, whether it is always positive, whether it is learned or innate, and whether empathy is truly what makes us human. The book contends with these questions across disciplines, from the clinical to the psychological and philosophical to the linguistic and discursive. Opening new areas of research into inclusive language and the use of corpus tools to analyze individual terms, this book will be of interest to students and scholars in corpus linguistics and applied linguistics, as well as such fields as cognitive science, psychology, philosophy, and allied health. The Open Access version of this book, available at , has been made available under a CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
