When she meets the dashing Count Vronsky she rejects her marriage & turns to him to fulfill her passionate nature--w/ devastating results. One of world literature's greatest novels, "Anna Karenina" is both an immortal drama of personal conflict & social scandal & a vivid, richly-textured panorama of 19th-century Russia. * COUNT LEO TOLSTOY (1828-1910) was born in central Russia. After serving in the Crimean War, he retired to his estate and devoted himself to writing, farming, and raising his large family. His novels and outspoken social polemics brought him world fame. * ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR: CONSTANCE BLACK GARNET was a native Russian speaker, the daughter of Russian emigres to England. She met Tolstoy at his estate & later translated many of his works, as well as many works by Dostoyevski & other celebrated Russian authors. She was married to Richard Garnet, the celebrated English writer & editor. * SHIPPING: MNEMOSYNE carefully wraps, labels & custom-packages this fine book for FREE domestic shipment via USPS MEDIA MAIL (or USPS PRIORITY MAIL for a below-cost charge) & via USPS FIRST CLASS INTERNATIONAL AIRMAIL to all international destinations at our posted below-cost rates.
