Il psalmus abecedarius fulgenziano riflette diffusamente il tormentato clima politico e spirituale, che ha investito la provincia africana segnatamente tra la fine del quinto e l'inizio del sesto secolo, registrando da una parte le violenze fisiche e morali messe in atto dal potere vandalico, di fede ariana, contro la cristianità di fede cattolica; dall'altra esponendo le argomentazioni ereticali sui temi fondamentali della dottrina cristiana. A queste ultime Fulgenzio, che all'epoca di Trasamundo era «l'Sme de la résistance catholique» (Lambot), contrappone sistematicamente con abilità e fermezza le corrispondenti interpretazioni cattoliche, avvalendosi di speculazioni teologiche affermate nella tradizione patristica, particolarmente in Agostino, del quale egli ha costantemente seguito l'insegnamento. Fulgenzio di Ruspe (in latino: Fabius Claudius Gordianus Fulgentius, Fabio Claudio Gordiano Fulgenzio; Telepta, 468 circa, Ruspe, 1º gennaio 533) è stato un vescovo e santo berbero, vescovo di Ruspe, nel Nordafrica, all'epoca occupata dai Vandali. Fulgentius was made Bishop against his wishes, his first passion being monastic seclusion, piety & poverty. The book contains his 'Contra Arianos' & 'Ad Trasimundum', , written in response to a challenge to Catholic authority by the Heretical Arian King Thrasamund, as well as the 'De Fide', a description of the true Faith, the 'Ad Monimum' which is a defence of St Augustine & the belief that Augustianian thought made God predestinate evil. Such was Fulgentius' elequence on the topic of predestination that his writings were central to the debate over the centuries to come. The book also contains Fulgentius' letters & sermons. 375 grams.
