A collection of poems in memory of Edward Thomas. Inscribed by the publisher James Guthrie in pencil at the head of the front free endpaper "To John Gold / from James" underneath which Gold has inscribed "To Roger / fr John / Aug 1949". Lowe, A.B. Frost, J.D. Smillie and many others. Seldom found complete, this selection purports to be the best of the 600 illustrations from the set of Longfellow's works; but just as likely the determination was made based upon the overrun of the prints still available. One of 500 numbered sets, this is set #4. Signed.
