Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition. Original cloth-backed boards. A bit of foxing to edge of pages. Bookplate (of the E. H. Moores) coming loose from front pastedown. Else Near Fine, in near fine dust jacket (price-clipped). Inscribed on flyleaf: 'To Ernie Moore/who… taught me golf/by osmosis and followed/along, and marveled./Ford Frick'. Frick 'was an American sportswriter and executive who served as president of the National League from 1934 to 1951 and as the third Commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1951 to 1965. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970. Besides Frick's election to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1970, the Hall created the Ford C. Frick Award in 1978, and presents the award annually to a baseball broadcaster for major contributions to the game. . . . In the late 1930s, Frick played a central role in establishing the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. Later, during his tenure as National League president, when several members of the St. Louis Cardinals planned to protest Jackie Robinson's breaking of baseball's color barrier, Frick threatened any players involved with suspension. In 1951, he succeeded Happy Chandler as commissioner of baseball. Frick's critics accused him of favoring the NL in his rulings, such as how the 1960s expansion teams would be stocked. Frick's most highly criticized decision as commissioner was to convince baseball record-keepers to list the single-season home run records of Babe Ruth and Roger Maris separately in 1961, based on the length of the season played. Later, it was revealed that Frick had served as a ghostwriter for Ruth earlier in his career. Ultimately, the 'asterisk' was struck from the record book, as Frick had no real authority over how the records were presented' (Wikipedia). Signed by Author(s).

April 17, 1962. From Ford Frick to Dr. Stewart D. Brown, Jr. One page typed on Frick's commissioner letterhead and signed by Frick in green ink. Near fine tri-folded letter with a circle and minor annotation made by previous owner in pencil, and two tiny staple holes to top of letter. Overall, an excellent letter with a vibrant…signature. Includes James Spence Authentication (JSA) certificate. In this letter, Ford Frick lets Stewart Brown, Jr. know that he is passing an attached letter on to him, presumably dealing with the "regulations or availability" of scholarships. Ford Frick served as the president of the National League from 1934 to 1951, and as the commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1951 to 1965. Frick grew the sport in many ways and was instrumental in establishing the Cooperstown National Baseball Hall of Fame, which he was inducted into in 1970. Stewart Brown, Jr. was the son of an acclaimed surgeon who collaborated with Ty Cobb to erect a hospital and the Ty Cobb Museum in Cobb's hometown of Royston, Georgia. Brown, Jr. established the Ty Cobb Memorial Baseball shrine in honor of Cobb on Sept. 29, 1961. Signed.
