Two very nice and very scarce volumes. Front paste down and front flyleaf of Volume 36 with numerous pencil notations regarding these volumes and their scarcity an…d how they came to be purchased by previous owner in 1990. They were purchased for $300 in 1990 according to notations. The following is one of many notations: "Not to be sold under any consideration; one of the most important sources for land transfers in early Maine". Other notations include their previous ownership chain. "Unopened copy- which originally belonged to Stanton Pomeroy of Limerick, Me whose library was bought by Eastman in 1990". "F M Obrien acquired in an exchange with Harlan Eastman of Springvale, May 31, 1990". "Bevinn had a set of these when she bought the library of the Anthoensen Press in 1984 (now at the Maine State Library). I read my own set after publication, (foolishly sold), and reread Bevinn's copy before it was sent to Augusta". Illegibly signed and dated 6/6/90. 4 lines of notations partially erased. Francis Obrien was the godfather of antiquarian booksellers in Maine and northern New England. His daughter, Beviinn, is the person cited in these notations.
