Title and copyright pages dated 1881. 473 pages. In good condition. Covers are rubbed and faded. Cloth is frayed at head and foot of spine and corners, partially revealing boards beneath. Front gutter is cracked; binding feels a bit fragile, especially at front hinge, but covers remain attached. Front free endpaper, first flyleaf, and title page are detached but present. SIGNED and inscribed by author Frank Frederick Hilder on front free endpaper: "Frank Fred. Hilder, with the compliments and best wishes of his friend ___ Helper. St. Louis, June 30, 1881". Pages have some light foxing along edges, but otherwise are free of marks or tears. No other loose pages. A good reading copy that has been signed by one of the authors.
