Añadir al carritoNewton Dogvane A Story of English Country LIfe. by Francis Francis. With illustrations by John Leech. London. Spencer Blackett. no date on title page. Copyright page is entirely blank, leaving us with no date at all. Originally published in 1859, but this is not that copy -- this is probably from the 1890s or so, judging by the decorative cover. Bound in red cloth with black and gold lettering, and a illustration in gold on the cover showing a man riding a horse, jumping a low fence. Previous owner's bookplate on inside front cover. 368 pages. There are three hand colored engravings be John Leech -- the frontispeice, and others on pages 62 and 280. (it's possible that there is another, but if there is I haven't found it yet -- please write me if you know where it should be). Pages edges a little toned with age, but overall good and clean throughout. The largest flaw is on the front cover -- see photo -- where the right-hand side of the gold horse is rubbed off, as is the black lettering beneath. It looks as though the board got wet there once - the cloth is a little rough at that edge. Normal wear and fading to covers & spine.
