Prosegue un dettagliato racconto degli ultimi eventi militari al termine del bombardamento, il 2 novembre, ". la mattina del 3 (novembre) ci hanno portati alle mura di Capua nel Campo di Marte, ove si raccolsero tutte le guarnigioni degli assediati e che alla presenza del nostro esercito deposero le armi." e poi " . una costernazione generale i cittadini spaventati giacchè si era dato loro ad intendere che i garibaldini saccheggiavano e uccidevano quanti trovavano . Un'altra scena era il vedere i soldati Borbonici piangere e strapparsi i capellio nel mezzo delle strade per le perdite dei loro cari". "A Napoli si fanno preparativi per l'entrata di Vittorio (Emanuele .)", ". erano quattrro compagnie, due di linea e due di Bersaglieri come appare anche dall'ordine del giorno di Garibaldi.". La lunga descrizione degli eventi termina con la richiesta e conferme di notizia da casa. [Il 26 ottobre avvenne l'incontro di Teano tra Giuseppe Garibaldi e re Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia, nel corso del colloquio il comando delle operazioni fu ceduto dai garibaldini ai Piemontesi. Una volta attestatisi, i piemontesi offrirono la resa ai difensori, ed ottenutone un rifiuto, bombardarono la fortezza per due giorni. Il bombardamento consisteva in pesanti bombe sferiche incendiarie, con apertura da un lato che esplodevano a contatto con corpi duri. Al termine del bombardamento, il 2 novembre, la guarnigione decise di arrendersi, e la maggior parte delle truppe ripararono verso Gaeta, dove parteciparono alla difesa della fortezza. La resa della piazzaforte fu firmata a Santa Maria Maggiore].
