Hardcover. Condición: Good. First Edition. Octavo, 9 3/4" tall, xi + 512 pages plus 25 two-color plates, one black and white plate, and two hand-colored double-page maps, intertextual illustration throughout, three-quarter leather binding over brown cloth. In good + condition overall, and the interior is very good and clean, paper is lightly yellowed with very little only minor foxing, and on a few pages, the previous owner's name is on front free-end paper, internal binding is solid, and illustrations bright. The exterior is good only, leather scuffed and worn through to boards at all corner tips, back strip leather splitting at the rear hinge at top and bottom, with a mid-section breaking loose with leather torn across to front hinge, internal hinges cracked but not broken. Professor Dr. Oscar Fraas, geboren am 17. Januar 1824 in Lorch. Pfarrer, Naturforscher und Geologe. Nachdem er das in Württemberg übliche Landexamen bestanden hatte, besuchte er zunächst das niedere Seminar in Blaubeuren und dann das Evangelische Stift in Tübingen. Dort hörte er neben seinen theologischen Studien auch Friedrich August von Quenstedts Vorlesungen über Mineralogie, Geologie und Paläontologie, der ihn für diese Wissenschaften begeisterte und sich mit ihm befreundete. Seit 1848 wirkte er als Pfarrvikar in Leutkirch, von 1850 bis 1854 als Pfarrer in Laufen an der Eyach. Conservator am Königl. Naturaliencabinet in Stuttgart. Gestorben am 22.
