Smith did bookplates for the American Antiquarian Society, Harvard College Library, Charles Goodspeed, Cortland Bishop, Daniel Fearing, William Loring Andrews, etc. Among those illustrated here, as a copperplate impression, is A. Edward Newton's famous Oak Knoll bookplate of 1909, showing Temple Bar with a quote from Hill's Boswell. Also here are "Sidney Hunt's Bookplates" by James Guthrie, "Bookplates as Works of Art" by Ralph Pearson, a directory of 145 bookplate artists, and an illustrated catalogue of the Ninth Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Bookplates.
