Añadir al carritoThe second part of the celebrated series "Theatrum Europaeum"; the 2nd edition (1637); this part was written by Johann Philipp Abelin (1600-1634) and Johann flittner. Abelin's parts (1 and 2) are considered the best although these books are especially famous for their copper engravings by Matthäus Merian the Elder (1593-1650). This copy contains no large plates and maps (60 engravings are listed in the book), only the frontispiece and (all) 50 copper engravings in the text (mostly portraits of rulers or commanders, but also battle scenes etc.). Pages are also decorated with headpieces, tailpieces and initials; the title page has a copper engraving as a vignette/cut. /// Leather binding with raised bands (20th century); hardback, [6]+697+[21] pp., 1 plate, 4° (21 x 32 cm), leather as new, front endpaper has bookplate, frontispiece worn, yellowed and slightly waterstained (however, all tiny chips and tears skilfully fixed by bookbinder), cca 30 leaves (including title leaf) waterstained, many other leaves slightly waterstained (they usually have one small stain), all pages yellowed or, in many cases, tanned, some pages foxed, all chips and tears skilfully fixed by bookbinder, pages rarely have small ink stains or dark spots, frontispiece has a few tiny bookworm traces, condition: good Book Language/s: German.
