Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fair. 1st Edition. Brown cloth. Large folio. 6pp text. 12 full-page color plates. Copy #32 of 99 copies printed. The twelve skins in the collections of the Museum of New Mexico make up about half of the total number now in existence. One of the principal purposes of this work is to preserve for the future a record of this native New Mexican art. Here, for the first time, the skin paintings are being treated as the subject of a special publication. The reproductions were run by Martha Ann Walker, silk screen artist. The verse interpretations were written by Maria Schmitt Ely and the explanatory notes by E. Boyd Hall. Each plate is preceded by a leaf with a scene in outline, on recto, of one of New Mexico's early churches, and, on verso, a poetical interpretation of the skin painting. In terms of condition the binding has some fading and wear. There is a large stain mark to the top of the front cover and two white marks to the rear cover. The contents have separated from the binding but are in good condition. The front blank has a large tear and there is some light staining along the bottom margin of most of the pages and plates. All of the plates are in very good clean condition with the exception of plate #11 which has some light surface chipping at the right side where it was stuck to the preceding page and plate #12 which has some chipping at the left and right side for the same reason. Scarce. Foreign postage extra on this large book.
