"Wassily Kandinsky (1866 1944) pioneered abstract art and is a key figure in the history of modernism. This groundbreaking, fully illustrated study of Kandinsky's formative years follows his move from figurative painting to abstraction. Inspired in his early years by folklore scenes from Russia and the heightened colors of the landscape of southern Germany, he want on to co-found the Expressionist Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) group of painters with Gabriele Münter, Alexej Jawlensky, and Franz Marc. Gradually he stripped away the descriptive detail in his painting, hiding visual imagery behind fields of bright color encompassed by strong lines. He felt that what he had discovered was a path to a new spiritual reality, more akin to music than the physical world." Book and unclipped jacket are in excellent condition with no inscriptions. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: As New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: As New. 1st Edition. First published 2006 by order of the Tate Trustees on the occasion of the exhibition 'Kandinsky: The path to abstraction,' Tate Modern, London, 22 June - 1 October 2006. With essays by Shulamith Behr, Bruno Haas, Noemi Smolik and Reinhard Zimmermann. 224pp. Bright, clean & tight copy, unread, in AS NEW condition. "Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944) was one of the pioneers of abstract art and a key figure in the history of Modernist painting. His move from figurative painting to abstraction was a gradual one; this book follows that fascinating journey during the first twenty years of his career. Inspired in his early years as a painter by folklore scenes from Russia and the heightened colours of the landscape of southern Germany, he went on to co-found the Expressionist Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) group of painters with Gabriele Munter, Alexei Jawlensky and Franz Marc. Gradually he stripped away the descriptive detail in his painting, hiding visual imagery behind fields of bright colour encompassed by strong lines. He felt that what he had discovered was a path to a new spiritual reality, more akin to music than the physical world. [] This comprehensive and fully illustrated study of Kandinsky's formative years provides a key to understanding the achievements of one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. It includes an account of the period he spent in revolutionary Russia, examines his relationship with the painter Gabriele Munter, and explores his colour theories as well as the profound influence music had on his art." [jacket copy] Pristine hardcover w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding, wrapped in a bright-as-new jacket covered in archival mylar. Quite presentable. "Jeff Wall: Photographs 1978-2004" is published to accompany a major monographic exhibition of photographs by Jeff Wall at Tate Modern, London, developed in close collaboration with the artist. The exhibition will feature works from throughout his career, as well as including new work produced especially for the exhibition. Jeff Wall has been making photographs since 1967. He has helped to give photography a prominent place in contemporary art as well as effecting one of the most radical new developments in twentieth century photography. His highly innovative approach, best known through large colour transparencies of carefully constructed mise-en-scenes mounted in wall-hung lightboxes, has been complemented for the past ten years by large black and white photographs on paper. As well as illustrating these important works, the book explores the impact of the history of art and cinema on Wall's practice, revealing how he meshes documentary techniques with staged settings and digital collage.
