Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. FELLOWES, Daisy [260] pp. The Dial Press 1929 7 3/4" x 5 5/8" "Cats in the Isle of Man," published in 1929 by Daisy Fellowes, is a novel that follows the life of Claudia, the daughter of an American heiress and a Polish prince. The story, narrated by her childhood friend Judith, details Claudia's adventures and poor taste in men, with little to do with the actual Isle of Man. The book, which is partly autobiographical, is known for its witty and sometimes caustic prose. Daisy Fellowes (née Marguerite Séverine Philippine Decazes de Glücksberg; 29 April 1890, in Paris 13 December 1962, in Paris) was a prominent French socialite, acclaimed beauty, minor novelist and poet, Paris editor of American Harper's Bazaar, fashion icon, and an heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune. …

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. A small tear on the back of the dust jacket, also some very small tears along the top edge (please refer to images). Otherwise, the book is in original condition as when published. Carefully stored, the dust jacket is clean and free from marks. Pink binding and lettering along the spine remains mint. Pages are as new, clean and tightly bound, and have never been thumbed or opened. First edition. Featuring illustrations from Vertes, this is certainly a collectors item — especially in such fine condition. Sundays: A Fantasy is Daisy Fellowes's light, satirical novel that drifts through a series of whimsical, loosely connected episodes centred on fashionable society figures whiling away their Sundays in idle amusements, romantic entanglements, and airy conversations. Less a traditional narrative than a playful social tableau, it captures the charm, ennui, and self-invented dramas of the European haute monde between the wars. With a tone that is arch, frivolous, and knowingly detached, the book offers a wry portrait of a world devoted to elegance, distraction, and the gentle art of not taking life too seriously.…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. FELLOWES, Daisy [115] pp. Weidenfeld and Nicolson 1960 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" w/ illustrations by Vertes Daisy Fellowes (née Marguerite Séverine Philippine Decazes de Glücksberg; 29 April 1890 13 December 1962) was a prominent French socialite, acclaimed beauty, minor novelist and poet, Paris editor of American Harper's Bazaar, fashion icon, and an heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune. Fellowes wrote several novels and at least one epic poem. Her best-known work is Les dimanches de la comtesse de Narbonne (1931, published in English as "Sundays"). She also wrote the novel Cats in the Isle of Man. Among Fellowes's lovers was Duff Cooper, the British ambassador to France. She also attempted to seduce Winston Churchill, but failed, shortly before marrying his cousin Reginald Fellowes. She was known as one of the most daring fashion plates of the 20th century, arguably the most important patron of the surrealist couturier Elsa Schiaparelli. She was also a friend of the jeweller Suzanne Belperron, and she was a longtime customer of the jeweller Cartier.…

Limited Edition of 900 copies on Vélin Blanc, this being copy no. 933, of a total edition of 1000. Quarto (10 x 7 1/2 in.). (4), 191, (5) pp., b&w line drawings thoughout, including full-page, half-page, text, and head- tailpieces. Full dark red straight-grained morocco, gilt-lettered spine, TEG, silver endpapers, original illustrated pink wrappers preserved. Daisy Fellowes (1890-1962), née Marguerite Séverine Philippine Decazes de Glücksberg, was an heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune, Paris editor of Harper's Bazaar, acclaimed beauty, fashionista, mistress of high society, and minor novelist and poet. It is said that, having failed to seduce Winston Churchill, she instead married his cousin, Reginald Ailwyn Fellowes, a year after her first husband's death in WWI. Les Dimanches.her most popular novel, was originally published in Monaco in 1930 as Sunday or a Working Girl's Lament, a novella. For the present edition, she added a significant amount of text, enough to warrant this to be a separate book. Marcel Vertés (1895-1961), originally from Hungary, made his mark as a French costume designer as well as an illustrator; he won an Oscar in 1952 for Best Costume Design for Moulin Rouge. As an artist, he was responsible for the original murals at Café Carlyle at the Carlyle Hotel and Peacock Alley at the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC. Mildest rubbing to binding upper corners, otherwise a Fine copy of a title scarce in the marketplace. …

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. FELLOWES, Daisy Éditions De France 1935 Exemplaire No 15 Illustrations de Vertes Bound by Riviere & Sons London 10 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 1 7/8"D A deluxe copy of Daisy Fellowes' twentieth-century fairy tale, with two original drawings by Vertès. This copy owned by Diana and Duff Cooper, with their Rex Whistler bookplate pasted in. Fellowes and Vertès devised the idea for the book whilst taking the waters at the spa town of Dax in the Basque country. The fellow guests and townspeople inspired the characters that populate the bumpy tale of rags-to-riches. Fellowes' text is accompanied by numerous charming line illustrations by Vertès. This deluxe edition is signed by the author and artist, and includes two additional suites of the illustrations and two original drawings for the book. The first drawing depicts a waiter outside a French café and the second shows a man lying on a bed and a young woman kneeling by him. Both drawings are executed in black ink, with some additions in white. The wrappers are striking in "Shocking Pink", the trademark colour of Fellowes' favourite couturier Elsa Schiaparelli. Daisy Fellowes was a socialite and heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune. The association of this copy with the Coopers is fascinating. Daisy and Duff carried on a long on-off affair, which at times Duff's wife Diana was remarkably tolerant of. The two women epitomised the modern phrase of "frenemies". DESCRIPTION Daisy Fellowes. Illustrations by Marcel Vertès. Éditions de France. Paris. 1935. First edition. Deluxe edition; from a total edition of 1,000, this being no. 15 of 20 examples printed on Japon Blanc Super-Nacré, signed by the author and artist, numbered, and containing two original drawings by Vertès and two additional suites of the illustrations in sanguine and green. Signed by Daisy Fellowes and Marcel Vertès in ink to half-title. From the library of Diana and Duff Cooper with their ex libris bookplate (designed by Rex Whistler) pasted to front pastedown. Hardback, large octavo; bound in full pink morocco with gilt linear decoration to boards, gilt column design to spine with title, gilt inner dentelles, top edge gilt; originals shocking pink wrappers bound in at rear. 195 pages. Illustrated throughout by Marcel Vertès with 75 illustrations within the text, including 3 double-page illustrations and 10 full-page illustrations. All of the illustrations are duplicated in two suites on different papers without the text - sanguine (red) and vert (green). Also present are two of Vertès' original ink drawings for the book's illustrations. Vertès also designed the illustrated wrappers. French. 265 x 205mm. 1.9kg. Very good; some light rubbing along spine and forecorners of boards, slight fading to spine; light spotting to page edges, occasional slight spotting to pages; faint vertical crease to bound-in wrapper, paper professionally repaired at the corner of one drawing, not affecting the original image.…
