Some commentary for siege, defence, architecture is provided by the 4'th century military theorist - Kautilya. An opening (p. 10) map shows that many of the examples here are clustered in the Bhopal, Benares, Delhi triangle in the north. Well illus. with both b/w and colour photographs. Weaponry is rather under-represented - an exception being the gigantic cannon such as Jaiwaan. Forts in this context also had village, palace , market and temple aspects. 287 pages incl. INDEX and glossary at back. The time frame involved is 1192 A.D. to 1707 A.D. Approx. 40 forts are shown. Cond : Boards are black with silvery-gold lettering on spine only.
