Paperback. Condición: Good. Our family did not go to church, nor did I know anything about Christianity while growing up in San Diego, California. I became active in a variety of sports such as basketball, surfing, bowling, billiards, ping pong and Tiddlywinks. I worked a variety of jobs while attending San Diego State University. I graduated in 1976 and also acquired a teaching credential. In the midst of all this Jesus Christ entered the drama of my life. It wasn't long before the drama became a rescue story. Jesus saved me from myself. I was my own worst enemy and didn't even know it. Thank you, Jesus. The last place I thought I would ever step foot in was a church. However, now that Jesus was guiding my steps, his church was where I had to be. I got involved teaching Sunday school with the sixth graders and I also helped with the church's youth group. The Lord straightened out my life, put me on his blessed path and led me to the love of my life. Her name is Brenda. She became my wife that same year. An amazing thing happened: the church asked me to be their youth pastor. Those years of leading young people in the Lord was a blessing. The blessing kept growing leading us to plant a church where we still are today. We raised two children in that setting who are now adults living blessed lives in the Lord. I was then blessed to earn a Masters of Divinity Degree from Bethel Seminary in San Diego graduating in the year 2,000. The Lord led me to start Christian Life Tools as a way to extend his salvation and blessing to others. May God's salvation and blessing be on all who pick up this book.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. Imagine meeting a French chef who is much more than what he seems. In this true story, James Twyman enters the mystical world of Roger Dufau, the owner of a bed-and-breakfast outside Toronto, who dishes out lessons on love and God just as easily as he does the most delicious cuisine. Follow James as he undergoes a profound transformation, exploring his past relationships and dissolving negative patterns. In this remarkably personal account, James learns to release his fears and fully open his heart--perhaps for the first time. Food is one of the closest things we have to real spirituality, Roger explains, then goes on to teach the true meaning of abundance, and how our passion can be used to create new worlds and serve humanity. This is a book that will stir your heart as well as offer hints on how you too can become a master chef--not only of French cuisine, but of your own life. It is a recipe for living, and speaks with an intimacy that everyone can appreciate and understand.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. This first edition ever published of Trimalchio, an early and complete version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel The Great Gatsby now appears in paperback. Fitzgerald wrote the novel as Trimalchio and submitted it to Maxwell Perkins, his editor at Scribner's, who had the novel set in type and the galleys sent to Fitzgerald in France. Fitzgerald then virtually rewrote the novel in galleys, producing the book we know as The Great Gatsby. This ur-version, Trimalchio, has never been published and is markedly different from The Great Gatsby: two chapters were completely rewritten for the published novel, and the rest of the book was heavily revised. Characterization is different, the narrative voice of Nick Carraway is altered and, most importantly, the revelation of Jay Gatsby's past is handled in a wholly different way. …

Hardback. Condición: Good. By the author of acclaimed books on the bitter clashes between Jefferson and Chief Justice Marshall on the shaping of the nation's constitutional future, and between Lincoln and Chief Justice Taney over slavery, secession, and the presidential war powers. Roosevelt and Chief Justice Hughes's fight over the New Deal was the most critical struggle between an American president and a chief justice in the twentieth century. The confrontation threatened the New Deal in the middle of the nation's worst depression. The activist president bombarded the Democratic Congress with a fusillade of legislative remedies that shut down insolvent banks, regulated stocks, imposed industrial codes, rationed agricultural production, and employed a quarter million young men in the Civilian Conservation Corps. But the legislation faced constitutional challenges by a conservative bloc on the Court determined to undercut the president. Chief Justice Hughes often joined the Court's conservatives to strike down major New Deal legislation. Frustrated, FDR proposed a Court-packing plan. His true purpose was to undermine the ability of the life-tenured Justices to thwart his popular mandate. Hughes proved more than a match for Roosevelt in the ensuing battle. In grudging admiration for Hughes, FDR said that the Chief Justice was the best politician in the country. Despite the defeat of his plan, Roosevelt never lost his confidence and, like Hughes, never ceded leadership. He outmaneuvered isolationist senators, many of whom had opposed his Court-packing plan, to expedite aid to Great Britain as the Allies hovered on the brink of defeat. He then led his country through World War II.…

Paperback. Condición: Fair. Dirty Little Secrets of World War II exposes the dark, irreverent, misunderstood, and often tragicomic aspects of military operations during World War II, many of them virtually unknown even to military buffs. Like its successful predecessor, Dirty Little Secrets, Dunnigan and Nofi's new book vividly brings to life all theaters and participants of the war. Revelations include: - The real death count for the war, and why it has never been previously released. - The "new age" general who refused to smoke or drink, who lived on a vitamin-enriched diet, who opposed animal experimentation, and who regularly consulted his astrologer. - How equipment developed for the war led to such modern high-tech innovations as "smart bombs," electronic warfare, and nuclear missles. - The lackadaisical relationship between Germany and Japan throughout the war. - Tricky bits of information about the lingering effects of the war -- like the thousands of live shells and mines that are still buried in Europe and off the East Coast of America. …

Hardback. Condición: Good. When Warren Buffett was asked why the Gillette board of directors chose Jim Kilts to be CEO, he said, Jim made as much sense in terms of talking about business as anybody I've ever talked to. If you listen to Jim analyze a business situation you get absolutely no baloney. And, frankly, finding someone like that is a rarity. There is only one CEO in recent times who has faced--and succeeded at--the extraordinary challenges of leading three major companies--Gillette, Nabisco, and Kraft--into prosperous futures by doing what matters on the fundamentals. That CEO is Jim Kilts. In this vivid first-person account he reveals his system for success that is both cutting-edge and back-to-basics. Doing What Matters--the action plan for identifying and tackling what's important and ignoring the rest--is the key to winning in a warp-speed world where the need for revolutionary speed and decisiveness increases by the day. Kilts illustrates his ideas with colorful stories, such as that little red razor. A new product idea he proposed early on at Gillette, it was initially shelved because everyone knew you couldn't sell a red razor, but went on to become one of Gillette's biggest marketing successes ever. Jim Kilts's focus on both business fundamentals and personal attributes provides the complete package, showing how to get results that make a difference through: - Intellectual integrity: The ability to face the unvarnished truth about yourself and your business and using what you see as the basis for action. - Generating emotional engagement and enthusiasm: Using the force of your personality and ideas to infuse people and an entire organization with a sense of purpose and mission. - Action: Gillette, with just five product lines, had over 20,000 SKUs. After studying the issue for over two years, there were still 20,000. How Kilts got Gillette off the dime to pare down the number to 7,000 almost overnight is an astonishing example of getting the rubber to meet the road--with enormous benefits to the business. - Understanding the right things through an overarching concept to frame and filter issues: For Jim Kilts it was Total Brand Value, the framework he used in the consumer products industry for achieving better, faster, and more complete results than the competition. Whether you're CEO of a multibillion-dollar global company, the brand manager for a product, an entrepreneur starting a small business, or just beginning a career, Doing What Matters provides the practical ideas that get results--ranging from a day one action plan for starting a new job to a chorus of cheers and support to a program of total innovation that involves everyone in changes from small to big bang. Hardback. Condición: Very Good. The clashes between President Abraham Lincoln and Chief Justice Roger B. Taney over slavery, secession, and Lincoln's constitutional war powers went to the heart of Lincoln's presidency. Lincoln and Taney's bitter disagreements began with Taney's Dred Scott opinion in 1857, when the Chief Justice declared that the Constitution did not grant the black man any rights that the white man was bound to honor. Lincoln attacked the opinion as a warped judicial interperatation of the Framers' intent and accused Taney of being a member of a pro-slavery national conspiracy. In his first inaugural address, Lincoln insisted that the South had no legal right to secede. Taney, who administered the oath of office to Lincoln, believed that the South's seccession was legal and in the best interests of both sections of the country. Once the war began, Lincoln broadly interpreted his constitutional powers as commander in chief to prosecute the war, suspending habeas corpus, censoring the press, and allowing military courts to try civilians for treason. Taney vociferously disagreed, accusing Lincoln of assuming dictatorial powers in violation of the Constitution. Lincoln ignored Taney's protests, and exercised his presidential authority fearlessly, determined that he would preserve the Union. James F. Simon skillfully brings to life this compelling story of the momentous tug-of-war between the President and the Chief Justice during the worst crisis in the nation's history. .taut and gripping.a dramatic, charged narrative.-Publishers Weekly Starred Review.…
